East China’s Jiangsu province launched a series of activities to observe the 36th annual session of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Police in Lianyungang and Taizhou destroyed drugs confiscated in recent years. Relevant departments set up promotional booths to popularize the hazards of drug and the anti-drug awareness.
Given the strong curiosity and insufficient drug identification ability of young people, police in Suzhou, Suqian, and Yancheng have opened anti-drug classes in communities and schools in a bid to further improve young people"s ability to identify and refuse drugs through VR virtual reality and other methods.
“Drug dealers will adopt a new type of packagingthat is closer to common food in order to facilitate more covert sales of these new drugs.So, when strangers give you something,you need to keep an eye on it”, Zhang Ke, Police officer, Drug Control Office, Qinhuai Branch of Nanjing Public Security Bureau, said.
Authorities remind that the legal definition of drugs includes narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances that can make people addicted, and illegal users should bear corresponding responsibilities.
The United Nation’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking falls on June 26 each year to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society. This day is supported by individuals, communities and various organizations all over the world.
The UN Office on Drugs and Crime or UNODC has, over the years, been actively involved in launching campaigns to mobilize support for drug control. The UNODC often teams up with other organizations and encourages people in society to actively take part in these campaigns.
