In 2022, adult residents in Jiangsu reported a comprehensive reading rate of 90.33%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from a year ago, according to a news briefing held on Thursday.
A survey shows that reading has become a daily habit for more residents. In 2022, residents in the province spent 85.35 minutes per day reading, an increase of 7.56 minutes from a year ago by reading 6.55 copies per capita, an increase of 0.77 copies year on year.
Online reading remains the primary way for Jiangsu residents to read books, with an e-book reading rate of 64.51%, an increase of 0.13 percentage points from last year.
More and more residents are fond of listening to books with a year-on-year increase by 1.17 and 8.62 percentage points respectively.
The residents in the province have enhanced their awareness and satisfaction towards reading facilities and activities from a year ago.
“Overall, Jiangsu continues to steadily increase its reading population, with more diverse reading methods, steadily improving reading quality, and continuously strengthening public reading services, presenting a good situation of innovative breakthroughs and vigorous development,” said Sun Min, Director of the Publishing Department (National Reading Department) of the Publicity Department of Provincial Party Committee.
In the next step, Jiangsu will focus on deepening theme reading promotion activities and improving the efficiency of public reading services to systematically promote the high-quality development of reading activity in Jiangsu.
