East China’s Jiangsu province is making every effort to promote scientific prevention and control of wheat scab. The province is expected to experience 5 precipitations from mid to late April to early May, which is highly consistent with the wheat blooming period. Climate conditions are prone to frequent outbreaks of scab, making the prevention and control measures relatively severe.
Scab disease is the most threatening biological disaster to the stable and high yield of wheat, and it is most susceptible to infection during the heading and flowering period.
At present, most of the wheat in southern Jiangsu has basically finished flowering, but the wheat area in central Jiangsu is basically in the peak flowering period, and most of the dry stubble wheat in Huaibei is in the heading and flowering period. Therefore, recent cloudy and rainy weather can easily lead to the infection of wheat scab.
In recent days, agricultural technicians from Yancheng, Suqian, and Lianyungang have visited grassroots communities to provide technical guidance and ensure that prevention and control measures are implemented in the fields.
“Agricultural technicians visited my home and taught us hand in hand to timely carry out disease and pest prevention according to her requirements, ensuring that our wheat fields can maintain stable and high yields,” said Liu Zengyong, a villager from Sunyuan Town, Sihong County.
Efficient prevention and control of wheat scab mainly relies on advanced agricultural equipment such as high-altitude gap plant protection machines and flight prevention drones. In the past two days, multiple organizations in the province have mobilized social service organizations to inspect the fields and assist farmers in carrying out wheat scab prevention and control.
“We have already served 5000 mu in the past two days, and by the end of this month, our service area can reach 30000 mu,” said Hou Weijin, General Manager of Jingjiang Modern Agriculture Comprehensive Service Center.
“Our comprehensive agricultural service center is equipped with over 30 sets of machinery, including plant protection drones, which can serve hundreds of surrounding farmers of all sizes, ensuring that the people receive timely prevention and control measures,” said Zhou Xiaobing, Director of Agricultural Comprehensive Service Center in Dagong Town, Hai"an City.
