After two years of in orbit testing, China"s first ecological environment comprehensive hyperspectral observation satellite was officially put into use on Tuesday.
This satellite was successfully launched on September 7, 2021. Carrying a total of 2 Earth observation payloads and 5 atmospheric environment observation payloads, it has the ability to simultaneously conduct quantitative and hyperspectral observations of environmental factors such as atmospheric environment, surface water bodies, and land surface ecological changes, and its comprehensive performance has reached the international advanced level.
"In terms of atmospheric monitoring, this satellite can cover carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, methane, ozone, and particulate matter, all of which are monitored with great improvement in accuracy. For the surface, in the past, we could only detect one type of surface, such as water, land and forest, but this satellite can detect different types of forest, such as coniferous forest and broad-leaved forest," said Dong Mingli, Director of the Ecological Monitoring Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
This satellite will play an important supporting role in the remote sensing monitoring of ecological environments such as atmosphere, water, and natural ecology in China, thereby improving the ability to respond to environmental pollution events, monitor natural disasters, and respond to emergencies, and improve the level of environmental supervision.
