East China’s Jiangsu province will step up its efforts in 2023 for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, according to a statement released after the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Provincial Leading Group for Promoting the Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta. Xin Changxing, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and head of the Provincial Leading Group for Promoting the Integrated Development of the Yangtze River Delta, presided over the meeting and gave instructions. Xu Kunlin, the provincial governor, made arrangements for the specific work.

This year marks the 5th anniversary of the upgrading of the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta into a national strategy, as well as the 3rd anniversary of the symposium hosted by the Secretary in Hefei, according to a statement released after the meeting.

Looking back at the process of responding to changes and major challenges since the beginning of the new era, we have gained a deeper understanding of the significance of this strategy for building a strong country and rejuvenating the nation, the statement said.

It is necessary to study and implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and important instructions, implement the policies and decisions of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, adhere to goal-oriented, problem-oriented, and result-oriented approaches and accelerate the promotion of various key tasks in order to make greater contributions to promoting the higher-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, said the statement.

Jiangsu will fulfill the political responsibility of stabilizing the macro economy, continuously optimize the business environment, actively expand effective investment, fully tap the consumption potential, maintain the stable and healthy operation of the economy, and ensure a good start in the first quarter, said the statement.

In the meantime, Jiangsu will make greater efforts to promote technological and industrial innovation, give full play to the respective advantages of the four provincial-level administrative regions in the Yangtze River Delta, accelerate the in-depth integration of technology and industry, strengthen key core technologies, and enhance the stability and security of the industrial chain and supply chain so as to be a pioneer in technological and industrial innovation, according to the statement.

Jiangsu will further strengthen cooperation and coordinated development with Zhejiang, promote the construction of the Nanjing Hangzhou Ecological Economic Belt and the Taihu Lake Rim Science and Technology Innovation Circle, and work together to build industrial clusters and develop future industries, said the statement.

Jiangsu will also deepen all-round cooperation with Anhui, promote close cooperation between Nanjing and metropolitan area, accelerate the construction of Huaihe River Ecological Economic Belt, create a number of cooperation platforms, and promote the deep integration of industrial chain, supply chain and innovation chain, the statement said.

Jiangsu will make comprehensive efforts to promote the national strategy of integrating the Yangtze River Delta and the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, strengthen cooperation with the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and jointly serve the country to build a new development pattern, said the statement.

According to the meeting, the Yangtze River City Cluster is the main engine of economic development in Jiangsu, and is the "golden card" of high-end industrial development in Jiangsu. The province will promote the collaborative building of world-class advanced manufacturing clusters and internationally competitive digital industrial clusters, coordinate the development of metropolitan area and Suzhou Wuxi Changzhou metropolitan area so as to provide driving force for the economic development of the province and the entire Yangtze River Delta region. The coastal economic belt plays the role of the largest potential growth pole in the province and is the "blue plate" for Jiangsu"s development towards the ocean. Therefore, Jiangsu will deepen land sea coordination, river sea linkage, and north-south connectivity, creating an important support for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta. The Jianghuai Ecological Economic Zone undertakes the function of showcasing the ecological value, advantages, and competitiveness of the province, making it the "green heart zone" for sustainable development in Jiangsu so as to strive to achieve a virtuous cycle" of the more beautiful the ecology, the more prosperous the development, and the happier the people. The central cities of Xuzhou Huaihai Economic Zone bears the function of expanding the depth of Jiangsu"s development and is also a strong fulcrum for high-quality development in Jiangsu, making it necessary to continuously enhance the level of urban development, lead the high-quality development of adjacent regions between provinces, and enhance its strategic position in the national major productivity layout so as to promote the construction of the "1+3" key functional areas, clarify functional positioning with new development concepts, highlight functional characteristics, promote functional complementarity, and focus on building a regional economic layout with complementary advantages and high-quality development.
