East China’s Jiangsu province has made every effort to ensure the smooth progress of the south-to-north water diversion. Let’s take a close look.

Since the opening of water in November 2013, the first phase of the Eastern Route of the South to North Water Diversion Project has transferred 6.6 billion cubic meters of water to other provinces, effectively alleviating the shortage of water resources in north China and providing reliable water safety guarantees for the high-quality development of the areas along the route.

Jiangsu will set a new historical high for the duration and volume of water diversion by completing its 10th annual water diversion task.

However, in the face of weak links such as traditional management models, insufficient technical capabilities, and gaps in equipment upgrading and transformation, Jiangsu has formulated a special project to listen to the opinions and suggestions of frontline employees and technical teams.

“The key technical equipment of our pumping station is imported, which means weak localization. We also need to further clarify the responsibilities and division of labor in the centralized control center and the local pumping station,” said Xu Jin, Technical Director and Team Leader, Central Control Center, Eastern Route, South to North Water Diversion Project.

“We need to continue to strengthen the localization and transformation process of key core technology equipment such as pump station information monitoring and security control so as to ensure the safe operation and independent control of heavy equipment in the South to North Water Diversion Project. We also need to further optimize the remote centralized management standards, enhance the efficiency of engineering management through intensive management, and ensure the economic and efficient operation of the project,” said Sun Tao, Director of the Operations Department of Jiangsu Water Source Co., Ltd.

During his inspection of the Jiangdu Water Conservancy Hub, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that “we should actively carry out education on national conditions and water conditions by relying on large-scale water conservancy hub facilities and the Jiangdu Water Conservancy Hub Exhibition Hall”.

In response to the issue, Jiangsu Water Source Company plans to focus on the richness, interactivity, and fun of the exhibits, guiding people from all walks of life to feel the power of China.

“We will gather the Nanjing Water Resources Education Office, Jiangdu Engineering Planning Museum, and 14 large hydropower stations. We will also use AI and VR technology to provide online visits to 9 cascade large pumping stations in Jiangsu, making water resources education more tangible,” said Wu Dajun, Director of the Publicity Department of Party Committee of Jiangsu Water Source Co., Ltd.

Since the start of the education campaign on study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Jiangsu Water Source Company has focused on the new problems encountered in the development of the South to North Water Diversion project and the new challenges encountered in promoting high-quality development of the company by identifying 13 research topics and interviewing more than 170 frontline employees and working together with grassroots employees to discuss problem-solving strategies for domestically produced alternatives such as autonomous control, remote centralized control with few people on duty, technological innovation, and digital twins.
