The city of Changzhou in Jiangsu province has made every effort to promote high quality development by carving out a new path in the new energy industry through innovation, upgrading, and restructuring of the industrial chain.

“We have built a research platform with nationally recognized enterprise technology centers. The top ten power battery enterprises in the world, including CATL and Honeycomb Energy, have launched large investment projects in Changzhou, making Changzhou gather more than 120 new energy enterprises with an industrial chain integrity of 97%, ranking first in China.

“Changzhou has a good foundation in manufacturing industry, but in the new round of global scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, we have always been seeking breakthroughs in the strategic leading and pillar industries so as to drive the improvement of urban development level. Since 2013, we have implemented the "trinity transformation strategy of industrial economy" by focusing on strengthening ten advanced manufacturing clusters and eight high growth industry chains and make every effort to promote intelligent transformation and digital transformation of manufacturing industry”, Zhou Yizheng, Director of the Comprehensive Department of Changzhou Industry and Information Technology Bureau, said.

Spearheaded by the new energy industry, Changzhou has promoted intelligent transformation and digital transformation of the manufacturing industry, as is evidenced by Changzhou"s clear and firm high-quality development ideas.

Liyang and Jintan have focused on the development of power battery and energy storage industry. Wujin District and Xinbei District have accelerated the promotion of new energy automobile industry. Zhonglou District and Economic Development Zone have relied on the existing transformer manufacturing foundation to build new power equipment cluster areas with high standards to promote the coordinated development and agglomeration of industries.

“We have also focused on strengthening, supplementing, and extending the industrial chain, carrying out precise investment attraction for the industrial chain, and attract a group of leading headquarters technology projects”, Han Xueqin, CPC chief and Director of Changzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, said.

In recent years, Changzhou has established 47 public research and development institutions by attracting more than ten famous domestic universities and institutes that include the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Xi"an Jiaotong University. In the meantime, Changzhou has implemented the "532" development strategy and established the New Energy Vehicle Research Institute, Changzhou Science and Education City, China Israel Changzhou Innovation Park, and the "Two Lakes" Innovation Zone so as to have gathered global innovation resources and continuously injecting "vitality factors" into the city’s industrial development.

“We have 22 doctoral candidates who have joined our research institute, targeting major national and local needs. We are conducting basic research and cultivating talents through the integration of scientific research and industry”, Zhai Jun, Vice President of Liyang Smart City Research Institute of Chongqing University, said.

“After years of development, Changzhou has become a very excellent innovation city in China. From the perspective of China as a whole and even the Asia Pacific region, Changzhou is Israel"s most valuable trading partner”, an Israeli entrepreneursaid.

Changzhou"s new energy industry chain has gathered more than 3400 enterprises by recording annual output value of over 500 billion yuan. The production and sales of NEVs and power batteries account for half of the provincial total.

By 2025, Changzhou is expected to record over one trillion yuan in capital market value and new energy industry scale so as to accelerate the construction of a "new energy capital" that leads the Yangtze River Delta, radiates nationwide, and has global influence.
