With the rapid development of the new generation of information technology, many schools are promoting AI in the classrooms so that primary and secondary students can get access to cutting-edge technology earlier, and improve the scientific literacy and innovation ability of young people.
In the intelligent speech classroom of Changshu County Middle School in Jiangsu, students were seen using voiceprint recognition, speech recognition, and speech synthesis to enable their machines to listen and speak. The teacher guided students to use voice to control the lighting switches in the classroom through programming and design. The new curriculum approach has aroused a strong interest among the students.
"Our teacher helped us explain the course content through these experiments and games. I think, for example, in this programming, the logical relationship inside has greatly improved my logical thinking ability," said a ninth grader.
"Artificial intelligence is generally offered as an extracurricular class, once a week. In addition, the artificial intelligence class also has the opportunity to participate in innovation activities and NOC competitions in Jiangsu Province," said a teacher in charge of AI teaching.
At present, the school has built multiple innovation laboratories, including artificial intelligence innovation laboratories and robot maker laboratories, offering courses in artificial intelligence and 3D creative design.
Changshu, a county-level city in the southeast of Jiangsu, has completed the full coverage of star rated intelligent campuses in primary and secondary schools.
"We have implemented five key measures, including the education and research service system, by building an artificial intelligence education carrier, constructing an artificial intelligence curriculum system, and building an artificial intelligence teacher team so as to give full play to the demonstration and guidance role of pilot schools," said Yan Xichun, Director of the Education Equipment Technology Center of Changshu Education Bureau.
By actively participating in the pilot application of artificial intelligence courses at the Central Audiovisual Education Center, Jiangsu has produced in recent years 23 national excellent artificial intelligence courses at 128 schools of 11 prefecture level cities across the province, accounting for 1/6 of the country"s total.
