At Lanhui Farm in Zhangxi Community, Jiangning District of Nanjing, blueberry trees were swaying in the wind. In order to ensure that some varieties of blueberries will be supplied to the market recently, technicians have strengthened management through artificial fruit thinning, bee pollination, integrated irrigation with fertilizer and water, and unmanned plant protection so that many blueberry trees have begun to bear fruit.
"You can see that this blueberry has this small green fruit, which will mature around May 20th. We need to detect the occurrence of pests and diseases to prevent aphids and gray mold," said Zhou Yao, Blueberry Planting Technician.
"Our blueberry farm covers an area of over 300 mu and has planted seven varieties. The 90000 to 100000 blueberry trees are divided into early maturing, medium maturing, and late maturing varieties. Blueberries start to be supplied to the market around May 20th every year and will continue to be marketed until the end of July and early August. This year"s yield is expected to be around 90000 kilograms," said Zhang Yun, Director of Nanjing Fulant Blueberry Planting Professional Cooperative.
In the apple orchard of Yanghe New Area in Suqian city, fruit farmers are pruning, brushing buds, and thinning flowers to improve fruit setting rate.
Apples are not good at self pollination, so that orchid has introduced over 20 million Italian bees to help fruit farmers to strengthen their pollination of apples. The pollination period will be completed within one week.
"We expect early maturing varieties to be available on the market in late August. The late maturing Fuji apples are expected to be available to the market on November 20th. We expect a yield of 3 to 3.5 tons per mu, and the overall yield will be around 10000 tons," said Li Yan, Head of apple orchard of Yanghe New Area in Suqian city.
