Saturday marks the 54th World Earth Day. East China’s Jiangsu province has launched themed public-good activities, calling on everyone to practice the concept of green environmental protection through practical actions. In recent years, Jiangsu has strengthened ecological space restoration, strengthened biodiversity protection, and laid a solid ecological foundation for the construction of a beautiful Jiangsu.
On Saturday, Jiangsu launched a series of themed science popularization activities to call for the people to cherish the Earth.
The Provincial Department of Natural Resources carried out publicity and consultation activities in Nanjing Xuanwu Lake Park to raise public awareness of conservation and intensive utilization, and to popularize knowledge of earth science.

In the geography classroom of Yancheng Dongjin Road Junior High School, teachers used terrain sand tables and sun, moon, and earth motion instruments to demonstrate the formation of the Earth"s landforms and the origin of the 24 solar terms.
Last week, Guantianpei Primary School in Huai"an City sold recycled plastic bottles for 781 yuan. These plastic bottles were sorted and recycled by the entire school over a week.
“On weekend, I will go to the gym to pick up discarded plastic bottles and hand them over to the school on Monday,”said Wang Anqi, a first grader of Guantianpei Primary School in Huai"an City.
Some regions along the Yangtze River carried out fish fry releasing activities. Xiashu Town in Jurong County has released 500000 friesof silver carp, grass carp, crucian carp, and other fish to the Yangtze River in order to promote the continuous improvement of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River.
The "Shaobo Lake West Wetland Ecological Restoration Project" located in the North Lake Wetland of Yangzhou City is the province’s first sub-project of the national integrated protection and restoration project of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grass and sand. It is the source area of the Jiangsu section of the East Route of the South to North Water Diversion Project and an important channel for bird migration from north to south.
“It"s like a natural oxygen bar here. It"s great to take a walk here after work, which helps to relax the whole mood,”said a resident of Yangzhou.
In recent years, Jiangsu has marked off 27.3035 million mu for ecological protection, introduced management measures to strictly regulate ecological space and adjust the area, resulting in a forest coverage rate of 24.06% and a natural wetland protection rate of 64.3%.
In the past five years, Jiangsu has also completed comprehensive land remediation of 4.17 million mu, mine remediation of 91500 mu, coastal restoration of over 300 kilometers, and wetland restoration of 320000 mu. As of the end of last year, the province had updated the number of biological species to 6903.
